Glen Garioch Distillery - Cask Spirits Global

About Glen Garioch Distillery

The distillery went through many changes of ownership over the intervening 220 years, and is still active now, owned by Morrison Bowmore Distillers which is a part of the Beam Suntory group. The current capacity is around one million litres of spirit per annum, and its water source is the Silent Spring of Coutens Farm.
The location of Oldmeldrum is renowned for its barley and Glen Garioch continued to malt its own barley long after most others in Scotland had ceased the practice – in fact, the former maltings actually take up a larger amount of space on the site than the distillery itself. The distillery had many challenges over the years due to continuous water shortages. When Stanley P. Morrison – of Morrison Bowmore – purchased the distillery in 1970, he took it upon himself to find a new water source. The Silent Spring was discovered on a neighbouring farm and earned its name because it could not be seen or heard, but allowed the distillery to increase its production ten fold, and to go on to be a successful distillery ever since.
