About Springbank Distillery
The Springbank distillery was built and licensed in 1828, but records suggest that distilling was being undertaken there for far longer. Founder William Reid owned the distillery for the first nine years of its official existence, but decided to sell up to his in-laws – the Mitchells – in 1837.
Unusually, the distillery is today still owned by the same Mitchell family, and the logo J & A Mitchell & Company adorns every bottle produced.
Even more rare is the fact Springbank malts all of its own barley, and does full production on site, ensuring it is produced 100% end to end in Campbeltown. This keeps its current capacity fairly low at 750,000 litres of spirit production per annum, but its adherence to tradition has made it a firm favourite of whisky lovers globally, with many releases selling out quickly.
